CORA Unites Annual Charity 5K – Come Play with Us!

CORA Unites Annual Charity 5K – Come Play with Us!

Close your eyes and go back in time for just a minute. Remember jumping rope, flying through your neighborhood on a bike, staring at a clock until recess, shooting hoops, playing catch, hopscotch, the hokey pokey, launching off swing sets, rounding up friends for capture the flag, fierce kickball games, or just running through the grass barefoot? Movement was as essential to life as eating and breathing.

When do we stop playing like this? According to a poll from the National Alliance for Youth Sports, around 70 percent of kids in the United States stop playing organized sports by the age of 13 because “it’s just not fun anymore.”

Even if it’s become more of a chore, you’re recovering from an injury, or you’re struggling with pain, physical therapists will tell you that movement is the BEST medicine! The more active you are, the fewer health problems you will have.

CORA says, “Let’s make movement fun again!”

For 2022, the CORA Unites Annual Charity 5K is taking it back to childhood. Play with us for 3.1 miles! Think of this as an opportunity to get out for recess, celebrate PT month, and support The Perthes Kids Foundation.

CORA Physical Therapy CORA Unites 5k

Who:     Each year CORA Physical Therapy chooses one model patient who demonstrates that CORA is connecting communities with purpose. That patient is highlighted and chooses a charity of their choice as the recipient of 100% of the proceeds of this event.

This year we chose Nevan Shively, a teenage boy who wants to run and play volleyball and be just as active as his friends and classmates. Nevan has Legg-Calve’-Perthes Disease, often shortened to Perthes Disease.

CORA Unites 5k Race for Nevan

The 5K event is open to anyone: CORA employees, family members, friends, patients, friends of family or patients, and friendly strangers. We are looking for people to get active and support Nevan and the fight against Perthes.

What:    October is National Physical Therapy Month – a time to celebrate the profession and all the ways physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and PT & PTA students keep us all moving. Supporting a fantastic cause and getting active, checks multiple boxes!

When:   Saturday October 1, 2022. But, since this is a virtual event, we can be flexible. The race will be open from October 1 – 9. While we’re being flexible on date, why not be flexible on type of movement too? Complete your 5K (3.1 miles) as a run, walk, skip, bike, swim, or any combination of the above.

Where: You pick the place! Self-time and then submit your results via the “Manage my Registration” tab on the race site.

Why:     ALL proceeds from this race will benefit The Perthese Kids Foundation. Also, completing a 5K is good for you. Win/win!

How:     STEP 1: Register for the event

STEP 2: Run, Walk, Bike, or Move your way through 5K

STEP 3: Submit your time via the “Manage my Registration” tab

Rules:   There is no designated start time or date to complete your run/stroll/roll. Move at your pace and your time. The event is open from October 1 – October 9, 2022.

Remember, this is a self-guided deal. Stay hydrated, water must be provided by the participant. Use safety precautions, pick up after yourself, and help keep our parks clean.
