What if someone said you could help the fight against ALS, celebrate PT month, and improve your own health all at the same time? Just say “yes” and then sign up for: Chuck’s Virtual Race Against ALS
Who: Each year CORA Physical Therapy chooses one model patient who embodies the CORA Unites mission to connect communities with purpose. That patient chooses a charity of their choice, which then receives all proceeds from the annual event. This year we selected Lt Col Chuck Schretzman, a retired Airborne Army Ranger, who demonstrates extreme motivation in his fight against ALS.
The 5K is open to CORA employees, family members, friends, patients, and friends of family or patients. We are looking for people to get active and support Chuck and the battle against ALS.
What: October is National Physical Therapy Month – a time to celebrate the profession and all the ways physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and PT & PTA students help improve lives across the country. Supporting a fantastic cause and getting active, checks multiple boxes!
When: Saturday October 9, 2021, which also happens to be Physical Therapy Day of Service! But, since this is a virtual event, we can be flexible. The race will be open from October 9 to October 31, 2021. While we’re being flexible on date, why not be flexible on type of movement too? Complete your 5K (3.1 miles) as a run, walk, skip, bike, swim, or any combination of the above.
Where: You pick the place! Self-time and then submit your results via the “Manage my Registration” tab on the race site.
Why: ALL proceeds from this race will benefit Chuck’s charity of choice, I am ALS [IamALS.org]. Also, completing a 5K is good for you. Win/win!
Oh, and there’s cool swag: T-Shirt, finisher’s medal, online certificate of completion, posted results, bragging rights…
How: STEP 1: Register for the event
STEP 2: Run, Walk, Bike or Move your way through 5K
STEP 3: Submit your time via the “Manage my Registration” tab
Rules: There is no designated start time or date to complete your run/stroll/roll. Move at your pace and your time. The event is open from October 9 – October 31, 2021.
All race packets will be mailed to participants.
Remember, this is a self-guided deal. Stay hydrated, water must be provided by the participant. Pick up after yourself and help keep our parks clean.
Help: Many newbie runners become discouraged by starting too fast and pushing too hard. Their bodies rebel, and they end up miserable, wondering why anyone would want to run in the first place. We recommend gradually easing into your 5K training! Here is an optional plan for beginners: from Runner’s World.
