In Your Corner with CORA: Total Knee Replacements

Jul 23 2020 | CORA Development Team

Your Health, Objectively. Treating Everyone Right.

Are you a candidate for Total Knee Replacement (TKR)? This week is the second part of a podcast series on Total Joints – Shoulder, Knee, and Hip! The panel explores specific knee injuries, conditions, candidates for knee replacement and everything you need to know to become an expert!

Learn more about the relationship between PT and Ortho, including how the two functions work closely together to get you back to your normal routines with full range of motion. Our panel of special guests include:

  • Dr. Rick Lehman, Director of U.S. Center for Sports Medicine + CEO LehmanHealth
  • Dr. Steve Nguyen, MD, Founder, Optimotion Orthopedics (Orlando, FL)
  • Kinsey Shouse, DPT, CORA O’Fallon (Missouri)
  • Nick Player, DPT, ATC, OCS, MTC, Regional Manager (Central Florida)

For example, a 35 year old ex-NFL lineman is experiencing end stage degenerative disease in the medial compartment. He has had five arthroscopic surgeries over the years and has pain and swelling inhibiting his ability to walk or stand for long periods of time … what do you do? Listen to hear the answer to that scenario as well as topics such as:

  1. Who is a candidate for a Total Knee Replacement (TKR)?
  2. How has the demographic of who is a candidate for TKR changed?
  3. Explain the immediate (same day) rehab -and long term rehab – what are the goals?
  4. What range of motion can be expected after a total knee?
  5. What are activity expectations? What restrictions do you give your patients in PT after total knee surgery? What is the hardest motion to regain?
  6. What is minimally invasive TKR?
  7. What are expected home exercises after a TKR?
  8. How soon are patients mobile enough to complete normal daily activities?
  9. What are signs that a patients’ rehab is in trouble?
  10. What sports can you play after a TKR?
  11. How long does a TKR last and what can patients expect as far as function?
  12. How important is the functional movement of Sit-to-Stand in the result of a TKR?
  13. What is the best prehab or pre-op protocol for patients getting ready for a TKR?
  14. What is unique and beneficial to the lateral approach of the TKR?

This 30 minute panel seeks to answers your questions and so much more, including why physical therapy pre and post-op is just as important for patients to regain strength and resume activity as quickly as possible. You’ll leave the podcast with a better understanding of how a dedicated regimen is proven to decrease post-surgical complication rates, reduce costs of healthcare, and improve quality of life pre and post-surgical procedure.

CORA is in your corner with experienced partners, larger networks, and the resources available to deliver exceptional care to you — and uniquely for you!
